The Broken Tower

James Franco makes his Big Screen directorial debut with “The Broken Tower.” Which is a biography about an American poet named Hart Crane who committed suicide at the age of 32. It stars Franco, Michael Shannon (The Man of Steel) and Stacey Miller (who has starred in many of Franco’s short films). This low budget film shot in three different countries, 30 different locations in only 15 days.

Expect for “The Broken Tower” to make a lot of noise for next year’s movie awards.

The Broken Tower comes out June 20, 2011

Paradise Lost

Not much to tell about this upcoming feature film due to the fact that it is still early in its production but from I can tell it is going to an all out war.

Paradise Lost is based off the epic poem by John Milton written back in the 1600’s and like the book it is about the fall of Lucifer and his rebel angels that waged war against god and then were banished to hell. And due the length of the poem no one really knows how much the film will show, or if they are planning a trilogy. But it is known that Adam and Eve will make an appearance.

But besides that small synopsis that was released a few months back not a lot of further information about the story has been released. But the main actors have been.

Staring as

Lucifer is Bradley Cooper (A-team, Limitless)
Jerahmeel will be played by Dominic Purcell (Prison Break, Blade: Trinity)
Michael will be played by Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter)
Samael will be played by Rufus Sewell (Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter)
Gabriel will be played by Casey Afflect (Gone Baby Gone)

Adam will be played by Diego Boneta (90210, Rock of Ages)
And Eve played by Camilla Belle (When a Stranger Calls, 10,000 BC)

Although this movie has an amazing cast what excites me about it is the director, Alex Proyas. Proyas is known for directing The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot and the Knowing.

And it is said that the movie will have intense action. In an interview with Empire magazine Bradley Cooper stated that they will shoot the entire film in motion capture which was used in Avatar and Rise of the Apes. And he also hints that the film will be about Lucifer going from the Angel of Light to Satan and says that they are changing this image and voice when he gets banned. Also he says they will speak in verse and with an English accent.

To me anything based off the Paradise Lost poem would be epic but that fact that they are shooting with Motion Capture, speaking in verse and having it be extremely violent (hopefully rated R violent) that this will make a great film.

Shooting was to begin this month but got postponed till March to refigure the budget but they are still aiming for a summer 2013 release.

Here is some Concept art released at this past summer’s Comic-Con.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is based off a book with the same name that was written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Grahame-Smith first made the New York Times Best Seller list in back in 2009 with the release of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was a reworking of Jane Austen’s classic Novel “Pride and Prejudice.” And after the quick success of PPZ and went on to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Like the title suggests the book follows Lincoln from his childhood to the time of his assassination and is told through a “secret diary” that Lincoln kept. SMALL SPOILER the book starts off with an eleven year old Lincoln who learns from his father that vampires are in fact real and that they are responsible for the death of his mother. Angered by this Young Lincoln vows to kill as many vampires as he can.

But enough about the book and about the film adaptation…

Not even a year after the book was released 20th Century Fox picked up the movie rights to the book but don’t worry about to many things varying from the book to the film because book author Grahame-Smith has been hired on to write the script and with Tim Burton producing the film. Although Burton won’t be directing this film (majorly because of scheduling conflicts with Dark Shadow, also being written by Grahame-Smith) and the directing chair went to Timur Bekmambetov known for directing Wanted and Night/Day Watch.

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter has a decent cast that should prove to be the best choice, for if it was weighted down with an A list cast I’m sure the specialness of the movie would have been overlooked.

Staring as

Abraham Lincoln is Benjamin Walker (Flags of Our Fathers)
Vampire Henry Sturgess is being played by Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger)
May Todd Lincoln will be played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Thing, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World)
And playing lead baddy Adam is Fufus Sewell (A Knight’s Tale)

Although no trailer has been released yet some images have been released.

And from these I think that this movie will be a cult classic but like most cult classics it won’t do very well in theatre. And yet I know I’ll be there opening weekend to see it.
